Cerita Manisan describe itself to share a story of each dishes. The food served by Cerita Manisan is Indonesian food, fromt he various part of the country, mixed and arranged in such a delightful way. And the Javanese Joglo house couldn’t be more appropriate for the main building.
My main dish is Babi Sambal Batokok. It is pork rice bowl topped with scrambled egg and Batokok Chili from West Sumatra. There were a controversy about serving West Sumatra food with non-halal pork sometime ago. I do hope that it won’t affect Babi Sambal Batokok, because this food is so delicious. I do feel the batokok chili is toned down a bit.
We also ordered several other dishes to share. Lado Ijo Goyang Lidah, beef tongue sauteed with green chili, also from West Sumatra. Best paired with hot white rice. But if you brave enough and can stand the chili, dip in with your spoon.
Our next food is Fried Gourame fish, served with Rujak sauce. If you see the photo below, the fish is topped with pineapple, a common ingredients for rujak. The result is sweet-sour taste, perfectly paired with crispy fried fish.
To balance our lunch, we ordered long beans, sauteed with enoki mushroom. Both the long bean and enoki is crispy in different way. I do expect more enoki mushroom
We love our food in Cerita Manisan, and we also love the surrounding green and small plot of rice paddy. If you have change to come to Ubud, do stop by at Cerita Manisan for lunch, or just to feel the air of Ubud.
